Just finished watching Encounter at Farpoint from The Next Level Preview Disc.
1 word Impressive
I was quite keen to check the Blu-Ray version out with all the conversion to Blu-Ray movies and TV shows going on alot of them disappointing i was not expecting much. Although im not a huge fan of the episode itself as i found it to be a bit boring.
But i can say that Encounter at Farpoint has been truly remastered and not just a few minor changes in lighting and colors to make it more vibrant like most of the conversions to Blu-Ray that have been done.
The quality throughout the whole episode is greatly improved. The special effects show so much more detail and clarity than the original.
Although one major issue i had was Farpoint Station looked too much like a cartoon as the droids look in the Star Wars Episode 1 Blu-Ray battle between the droids and gungans. The details of the ground around it looked great but the station itself was dodgy too me more time should have been spent to make it look realistic.
The scenes with the Enterprise in them looked amazing the improvements to the ship were great so much clearer drive nacelles looked sweet. The firing of the energy beam on the station was awesome.
Nothing is ever going to be perfect when converting to Blu-Ray but a
great job has been done with Encounter at Farpoint im looking forward to
the next episode and the rest of the season i hope the quality is
retained for the rest of the episodes and look forward to Blu-Ray
additions of the rest of TNG. If your a Star Trek fan its a must watch.
I give it a 9/10 for quality.
